Lioness Sighting in Westgate Conservation Area

Ewaso Lions’ Shivani Bhalla writes about her latest encounter with three lionesses from Samburu National Reserve’s Koitogor Pride. The lionesses were spotted in the Core Conservation Area of the Westgate Community Conservancy, so the team took some time to figure out who they were through facial features like whisker spot patterns, and determined they were from the Koitogor Pride. Lion identification is an essential part of Ewaso Lions’ research activities.  Identifying lions and tracking their movements help the team understand and prevent human-lion encounters.
